Alberta’s insect pest monitoring network is looking for wheat fields in which to survey wheat midge and wheat stem sawfly.
Wheat fields that are adjacent to fields where wheat was grown in 2019 are ideal, even if across a road or kitty-corner to the current field.
Sawfly is being surveyed in fields south of Highway 9 up to the south side of the M.D. of Provost, on the east side of the province. Midge is surveyed anywhere wheat is grown.
The network said in an Aug. 20 email that the surveys will be done after harvest with little disruption in the field. Those who offer fields for the survey will be provided with the results in November.
