Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $42.76 per hundredweight Jan. 31, up from $39.81 Jan. 24.

U.S. hogs averaged $52.49 on a carcass basis Jan. 31, down from $52.73 Jan. 24.

The U.S. pork cutout was $69.57 per cwt. Jan. 31, down from $77.38 Jan. 24.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Feb. 1 was 2.703 million, down from 2.720 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.372 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Feb. 1 Signature Five price was C$141.98 per 100 kilograms, up from C$136.10 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $64.40, up from $61.73 the previous week.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold for C$4.40-$5 per pound hot hanging weight with some sales reported as high as $5.40. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.85-$4.15 per lb. with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold for C$4.40-$4.80 per lb. hot hanging weight with some sales as high as$5.10. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.60-$3.80 per lb.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 489 sheep and lambs and 54 goats sold Feb. 1. Lightweight new crop lambs sold higher. All light lambs sold steady. Heavy lambs sold $5-$10 higher. Good sheep sold $5-$10 higher and good goats sold at a premium.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,002 sheep and 288 goats sold Jan. 27.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $220-$260 per cwt., 55-to 69 lb. were $240-$272, 70-85 lb. were $226-$260, 86-105 lb. were $190-$237 and 106 lb. and heavier were $176-$212.

Wool rams were $108-$136 per cwt. Cull ewes were $110-$130.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $160-$225 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $205-$236, 70-85 lb. were $230-$246, 86-105 lb. were $190-$230 and 106 lb. and heavier were $175-$195.

Hair rams were $120-$140 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$136.
