Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $42.08 per hundredweight Oct. 25, down from $42.88 on Oct. 18.

U.S. hogs averaged $53.10 on a carcass basis Oct. 25, down from $56.87 Oct. 18.

The U.S. pork cutout was $76.56 per cwt. Oct. 25, down from $77.03 Oct.18.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Oct. 26 was 2.693 million, down from 2.726 million the previous week.

Slaughter 2.563 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Oct. 26 Signature Five price was C$145.79 per 100 kilograms, up from C$148.30 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $66.13, up from $67.27 the previous week.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$4.80-$5 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.85-$4 per lb. with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$4.70-$4.80. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.60-3.80 per lb.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 775 sheep and lambs and 42 goats sold Oct 18. Good new crop lambs sold higher, while well-fed heavy lambs sold steady. All other classes of livestock sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,637 sheep and 598 goats sold Oct 21.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $140-$170 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $145-$177, 70-85 lb. were $140-$176, 86-105 lb. were $135-$166 and 106 lb. and heavier were $130-$152.

Wool rams were $180-$240 per cwt. Cull ewes were $80-$113.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $100-$120 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $100-$125, 70-85 lb. were $138-$159, 86-105 lb. were $130-$148 and 106 lb. and heavier were $125-$140.

Hair rams were $86-$106 per cwt. Cull ewes were $80-$115.
