Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$29.85 per hundredweight Aug. 24, down from $31.25 Aug. 17.

U.S. hogs averaged $37.06 on a carcass basis Aug. 24, down from $40.52 Aug. 17.

The U.S. pork cutout was $64.18 per cwt. Aug. 24, down from $66.77 Aug. 17.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Aug. 25 was 2.526 million, up from 2.451 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.338 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Aug. 25 Signature Five price was C$108.89 per 100 kilograms, down from $121.27 the previous week. On a per hundredweight basis the price was $49.39, down from $55.01.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$6 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.60 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$5.80. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.40.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,569 sheep and lambs and 173 goats sold Aug. 20. Lightweight new crop lambs sold under pressure at $10-$15 cwt. lower. Heavy lambs sold $10-$15 cwt. higher. A few fancy sheep sold at premium prices. All others sold steady. Goats sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,728 sheep and 233 goats sold Aug. 20.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $185-$220 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $185-$220, 70-85 lb. were $180-$220, 86-105 lb. were $193-$220 and 106 lb. and heavier were $190-$218.

Wool rams were $90-$126 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$184.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $162-$195 per cwt., 55- 69 lb. were $175-$194, 70-85 lb. were $181-$212, 86- 105 lb. were $190-$208 and 106 lb. and heavier were $190-$210.

Hair rams were $110-$136 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$136.
