Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$37.61 per hundredweight April 13, up from $35.08 April 6.

U.S. hogs averaged $50.06 on a carcass basis April 13, up from $45.27 April 6.

The U.S. pork cutout was $66.33 per cwt. April 13, down from $66.69 April 6.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to April 14 was 2.385 million, down from 2.335 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.227 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the April 14 Signature Five price was C$118.85 per 100 kilograms, down from $121.54 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $53.91, down from $55.13.

Bison up

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices up to C$6 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.60 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$6. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.40.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 900 sheep and lambs and 27 goats sold April 9. All lambs and goats sold actively at pre-holiday prices. Sheep sold $57 cwt higher.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 448 sheep and 68 goats sold April 9.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $250-300 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $253-$300, 70-85 lb. were $237-$270, 86-105 lb. were $213-$247 and 106 lb. and heavier were $192-$205.

Wool rams were $96-$120 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$147.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $210-$244 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $240-$270, 70-85 lb. were $228-$245, 86-105 lb. were $190-$230 and 106 lb. and heavier were $180-$196.

Hair rams were $97-$151 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$132.
