Deere & Co. is paying US$305 million to buy Blue River Technology, a leader in applying machine learning to agriculture.

Deere will retain all staff to continue the company’s growth and innovation.

Blue River of Sunnyvale, California, has applied machine learning to sprayers so they apply herbicide only where weeds are present.

Deere is confident that similar technology can be used in the future on a wider range of products.
