Otto Lang hasn’t gotten any less confident or challenging in his autumn years.
He noted at the beginning of his speech just now at the Fields on Wheels conference here in Winnipeg that he was likely to seem like he was stabbing “91-and-a-half percent” of the audience in the heart with what he was going to say.
But everyone was in good humour, and it was not likely that anyone would be surprised that Lang thinks trying to have a non-monopoly CWB in existence is a pretty stupid idea.
He said “THE key” advantage of the CWB is its known and dependable supply of grains, and without that security of supply, it didn’t have much point existing.
Lang’s one of those characters who could be sharply at odds with people in his political career, condemn their views, badger them on important points to him, frustrate them with his doggedness, but still somehow be liked by them. People in the audience seemed fond of him, even if he stabbed them in the heart. With a friendly smile on his face.
