The markets are so volatile these days that casual traders risk getting killed by huge swings in the markets, and full time professional traders are glued to their seats so they don’t caught out by the next massive move.
A broker I was talking to this morning said that there’s lots of money-making potential in the markets right now because of the volatility, potential that occurs in hours or minutes now that used to take weeks, but because the swings of the market are so great traders aren’t leaving open positions out there.
The timeline for traders’ positions has shortened up when even a few moments of inattention can risk huge amounts of money. “You don’t get to go to the washroom very often during the day,” he told me.
With the markets alternately creating euphoria and despair, traders aren’t having to drink a lot of coffee to keep awake, so they’ll probably survive the present bathroom break deficit.
