Canada is pushing its malting barley into growing markets, say the federal government and malting barley promoters.

Canada has a reputation for quality and technical support and that will be helped by $400,000 from the federal government’s AgriMarketing program, said the Canadian Malting Barley Technical Centre’s managing director at an announcement.

It will allow CMBTC staff to make sure foreign buyers know about Canadian malting barley qualities and how to use it.

“We do it from here or we get on a plane and help them (wherever in the world they brew beer with Canadian malting barley),” said Rob McCaig.

The money will be used to help develop new malting barley varieties and to demonstrate those varieties to foreign buyers.
