Thank you to everyone who participated in the #harvest14 photo contest, which was an incredible success with almost 500 pictures submitted!
Images of harvest equipment working, along with the families and crews that operate them, poured in from across the Prairies, and even beyond.
Most were submitted through twitter, by including @westernproducer in the tweets with #harvest14 pictures. Others images were emailed in or posted on The Western Producer Facebook wall.
The winners were picked by WP editors.
First prize went to Jason Whiting, @whitingjj, from Lloydminster for his drone-shot photo that looks directly down upon a combine while it’s working. We’ve seen many images of canola being harvested, but the reason we choose Whiting’s photo as the winner is because we have never seen a photo quite like it before.

We liked the low angle of light shining on the canola, the golden brown colour of the swaths, and the composition with the rolling hills moving up and off into the distance.

Third place takes us all the way across the Atlantic to the farm of Rob, @farmer_parr, in the United Kingdom for his lovely image of a Claas combine in a wheat field. We liked the exposure on the wheat and the overall mood of the picture.
