Last week the Cereals North America conference provided farmers with a battery of crop price outlooks that provide a great supply and demand-based look at where crop prices are likely to go in coming years.
Unfortunately for grain growers, it’s not a pretty place, with huge world inventories and production likely to provide a prolonged period of prices similar to today’s. (If you’re a livestock producer, feel free to celebrate. This is your golden age.) Unless there’s a massive drought somewhere, don’t be looking for high overall crop prices any time soon.
Our paper this week contains a number of stories about the conf, written by me, looking at some of the bigger issues discussed in the two days of the event. Look for it in your mailbox Thursday, or from sometime Thursday onwards on our website.
The video below is a taste of what was discussed at Cereals North America and focuses on what, to me, seemed like the most important theme for Western Canadian farmers to ponder.
