Skid steer loader takes on scraper

Reading Time: < 1 minute

FARGO, North Dakota – Farmers can now use their skid steer or track loaders to do levelling and drainage work typically associated with big 20-yard commercial scrapers, only not as much of it.

The Ashland Ground Hog 2500 is a miniature 2.5 cubic yard scraper that mounts to the front of a skid steer or track loader.

Ashland said it might be just the machine for fine tuning a drainage system or working in tight areas where a full-sized scraper and tractor can create more problems than they solve.

The little scraper increases the payload of a regular loader because two front castor wheels carry most of the weight of the scraper and dirt.

Depending on the machine and working conditions, only 20 percent of the weight is transferred back to the loader. From 80 to 100 percent of the additional weight is carried by the Ground Hog itself.

The little scraper also carries a bigger payload than a conventional loader bucket because the castor wheels allow the dirt to be rolled around the work site rather than lifted.

The scraper pivots in the centre, allowing the operator to maintain flat, level cuts on slopes and rough ground. Just like a big scraper, it captures dirt, carries, dumps and levels in a single pass. With the scraper located in front of the operator, it’s easier to do precise work in small areas.

The heaped rating is 2.5 cubic yards with a 72 inch width of cut and a three piece blade set.

Hookup requires a pair of half inch connecting hoses to power the two 3.5 inch by 16 inch lift cylinders.

One hydraulic remote is required. Empty weight of the scraper is 2,900 pounds.

The Ground Hog 2500 is available for Bobcat, John Deere and Cat loaders.
