BRANDON – The Case IH Quadtrac has 10 hubs running in oil at each corner, meaning there are 40 fill plugs that need to face straight up every time you want to check lube levels.
Brian Isaac of Leabank Ventures in Rosenort, Man., thinks his company has devised a quick solution for this time-consuming chore. Isaac has adapted a clear sightglass hubcap to the Case IH Quadtrac.
“The way the Quad is designed, you need to check each plug individually, with the plug at the top,” Isaac said.

“Now that doesn’t necessarily mean 40 tractor moves, because some plugs will always line up close enough by coincidence. But it does take a couple hours. Longer if it’s only one person doing the checking by himself.”
Isaac said regular checking is essential. If the oil in just one hub is lost, that means a bill for a new roller, axle, bearings, seals and service call.
“Most farmers say it’s just under the $2,000 mark, and that’s just for one hub assembly.”
Isaac’s solution is to remove the caps from each of the 40 hubs and replace them with Lubeview sightglass hubcaps from Leabank Ventures.
The Lubeview is machined from 6061 T6 aircraft grade aluminum, fitted with a sightglass made of hardened, shatterproof borosilicate glass. The Lubeview hubcap fits into the Quad hub exactly where the old hubcap comes out, without machining.
“You no longer need to start the tractor to move it. You still need to crawl under to see the inner hubs, but now you’re looking at a couple minutes max to check all 40 hubs.”
A complete set of sightglass hubcaps to fit all 40 hubs costs $1,860.
“One complete set sells for the price of replacing just one hub if you lose the oil,” Isaac said.
