Regina’s Western Canadian Farm Progress Show is featuring 17 new inventions in its Royal Bank New Inventions area this year. Here are three:
VBine Energy of Moosomin, Sask., has a patented windmill design it hopes will make high performance windmill electrical generation available to smaller businesses, especially those with masts and smoke or ventilation stacks already in place.
The company said the windmill can also provide power to farms and communication towers.
The VBine is a vertical windmill that uses wind from any direction. The manufacturer claims it is quieter and has low maintenance. Lifespan is expected to be 30 years.

VIDEO: Green Lightning and Nytro Ag win sustainability innovation award
Nytro Ag Corp and Green Lightning recieved an innovation award at Ag in Motion 2025 for the Green Lightning Nitrogen Machine, which converts atmospheric nitrogen into a plant-usable form.
The unit costs about $30,000 and is available in one, five and six kilowatt designs. The five kw unit produces enough electricity to power a home or small farm.

The Push ‘n’ Drive-over Gate eliminates the hassle of getting off the tractor every time a producer needs to pass through the fence line.
Rem Enterprises of Swift Current, Sask., came up with the idea of a building a steel gate that hinges down to the ground rather than swing off to the side.
Springs attached by chains allow the gate to fall forward when a vehicle hits it. The gate pops up against the bottom of the vehicle and lightly presses against it as it passes over. Once past, the gate pops back up.
Tension is adjusted by adding or reducing links in the spring chains. The gate can be locked in position and Rem staff say animals avoid it after touching it the first time because it moves and bounces back.
The gate comes in 5.3, 4.6 and two metre widths and is priced at $1,900, $1,750 and $900 respectively.
The two metre gate will also work for irrigation pivots, automatically opening and closing as the pivot passes through.

Auger Steer is a hydraulic steering system for grain augers and conveyors.
The unit, which is built by Triple Star Manufacturing Ltd. of MacGregor, Man., bolts onto existing auger frames, adding two king pins, hubs and a tie-rod assembly to the auger frame.
A hydraulic ram allows the user to control the auger’s ability to track behind the tow vehicle around tight corners and allows for more precise backing and positioning at bins.
The hydraulics will move the auger 50 centimetres from side to side at the spout without needing to back it up.
The units cost $1,200 to $1,500, depending on the model.
