First, I hasten to thank R.H. Leinweber of Linden, Alta., for naming me as the author of CWB Dreams in the April 21 issue ofThe Western Producer.Thank you, R.H.
I believe R.H. is quite correct in stating that our supply of the world market is less than five percent. However, that seems to me that that five percent is all the more reason to keep and always nurture our own marketing group, the Canadian Wheat Board.
Now, I would like to take this opportunity to say a word about monopolies. To me, monopolies enrich their owners. I suppose that is why we don’t like monopolies; we contribute to them.

Determining tariff compensation will be difficult but necessary
Prime minister Mark Carney says his government will support canola farmers, yet estimating the loss and paying compensation in an equitable fashion will be no easy task, but it can be done.
By the same token, if our own CWB is considered a monopoly, isn’t it true that as much as we producers own this so-called monopoly that we are enriched by it?
Therefore, I ask, what is wrong with us as producers owning a monopoly? Or, to put it in another way: is such an ownership downright illegal or even immoral? I like to think not.
