I’ve had a passion for politics ever since I was 16 years old; that’s 67 years ago.
In the beginning I held the view that humanity could and should achieve a utopian state where everyone was content and happy. As the years progressed I had to accept the reality that Utopia was both unrealistic and unachievable.
However, this did not dissuade me from believing that humanity should be constantly striving to reach a higher plane of development that would include a greater degree of egalitarianism, equality, freedom and well being.

Late season rainfall creates concern about Prairie crop quality
Praying for rain is being replaced with the hope that rain can stop for harvest. Rainfall in July and early August has been much greater than normal.
This belief led me to support the CCF/NDP throughout the years. I viewed it as the only alternative to the right wing political parties supported by the financial elite.
The NDP has had an uphill battle. It is not surprising. Wealth is power and the NDP has a powerful adversary.
With insignificant exceptions, the mass media is controlled by the financial elite. Through it they have the ability to influence public opinion.
By withholding information or feeding disinformation, they can successfully lead voters to make bad choices.
Wealth is also a powerful lure. It has been stated that “every man or woman has their price.”
The lure of wealth has led left wing supporters to abandon their position in favour of personal gain. The lure is a constant threat that has plagued progressive minded people throughout the world. Leaders are especially vulnerable.
It is my hope that the NDP will be able to weather the pitfalls that lie before it and stick to the ideals that led to its formation. Canadians certainly don’t need another right wing party.
