This is the story of the Little Red Farmer, who each year had his farm accounts go more and more in the red.
Once again the Little Red Farmer decided to plant a crop so that the millions of people in Canada and the world could be fed. However, lacking the financial means by which to put the crop in, he decided to ask for financial aid.
The Little Red Farmer approached the Banker. “Mr. Banker will you please help me financially so that I can put a crop in and thus feed the millions of hungry people in the world?”

Late season rainfall creates concern about Prairie crop quality
Praying for rain is being replaced with the hope that rain can stop for harvest. Rainfall in July and early August has been much greater than normal.
“Not I,” said the Banker. “I have extended your credit too many times already.”
The Little Red Farmer approached the provincial government. “Mr. Romanow will you please help me financially so that I can put a crop in and thus feed the millions of hungry people in the world?”
“Not I,” said Mr. Romanow. “That’s the jurisdiction of the Federal government.”
The Little Red Farmer approached the Federal government. “Mr. Vanclief will you please help me financially so that I can put a crop in and thus feed the millions of hungry people in the world?”
“Not I,” said Mr. Vanclief. “That problem lies with the European and American subsidies.”
So the Little Red Farmer went back to the farm and planted a crop anyway.
After harvesting the crop Little Red Farmer asked, “Who would like to have some of my meager financial funds?”
“I will,” said the Banker. “It will improve your line of credit.”
“I will,” said Mr. Romanow. “I need your taxes to improve health care, the education system and the roads.”
“I will,” said Mr. Vanclief. “The federal government needs your taxes so that talks about farm subsidies in Europe and America can continue – and of course we now need support and accommodations for the boat people.”
And they all took their share. Once again the Little Red Farmer was more in the red than he had been the year before!
