Protesters do not speak for everyone

To all those persons who insist that their protests — being part of a convoy occupation, blocking international bridges and roads — was to stand up for me and my rights and freedoms, I say, I can and do speak for myself.

I did not ask you to speak for me. I spoke for myself by abiding by public health measures because I believe they protect not only me but all those around me: my family, my friends and strangers in the community.

I am quite capable of doing my own research, reading work done by reliable scientists, health care workers, discerning fact from fiction, and yes I do support the work done by the “mainstream” media and I do not believe they actively contribute to the fake news and disinformation.

So please don’t use me to explain your actions taken for your purpose.

In our democratic country overseen by elected MPs and MLAs, all of us have the right to express our opinion and the right to make choices. I support all those who chose to not be vaccinated as a freedom of choice, but with each choice in life there are responsibilities and consequences.

There are times when the common good has to be in the forefront, and it seems that the majority of people recognized that by complying with public health measures. Now unfortunately, I, as part of those many more people who supported public health measures, have not been a loud vocal group, and perhaps that is our downfall and has contributed to the idea that “someone” needed to “stand up” for us.
