Dismantling CWB

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Published: April 7, 2011

No one is dismantling the Canadian Wheat Board but the directors and the CWB itself.

Last spring the CWB sold wheat to the two richest countries under the cost of production for farmers. Every one made money on the deal except the farmers.

Who paid off the Contingency Fund the CWB lost a couple of years ago? The farmers did.

How much of my money goes into the CWB pool to make it look better than it really is?

The CWB only sells approximately 40 percent of the grain; the accredited exporters sell the rest and they love it.

Growth plates are instrumental in shaping a horse’s life

Young horse training plans and workloads must match their skeletal development. Failing to plan around growth plates can create lifelong physical problems.

Who made the millions in the last few weeks of the fixed price on Jan. 31?

Farmers in the U.S. were selling for close to $10, while we could only get approximately $8 or lower. It’s the big bad multinationals who sell our open market grains and that’s where the farmers have received their best returns.

Any farmer who says he’s done well in wheat isn’t telling the whole truth. There have been lots of so-called handouts and programs because of low barley and wheat prices through the CWB. Don’t get sucked in by the private member’s bill the Conservatives brought forward to give farmers a choice; this is just a ploy to get money and votes for the election.

And why give money for wheat and barley research when there are higher yielding wheats and we get paid less than our neighbours to the south? The directors are working for the CWB, not farmers.
