When 330 millimetres of rain fell on Vanguard, Sask., the community as seen on TV appeared to be devastated. The response was swift.

(Saskatchewan premier Roy) Romanow phoned the mayor and promised aid from the provincial government. SaskPower trucks were used to provide drinking water, also supplied by SaskPower, to those people in need. The local co-op store, unable to replenish supplies, rationed sales of what milk it had to those families with children.

No doubt there are many more circumstances where people acted to meet the need.

This spontaneous action to assist in a disaster situation is an indication of the moral fabric of the people in Saskatchewan.

They are the reason Saskat-chewan has been named as the best place in the world to live. The people in Vanguard know it is not our weather.
