While reading the April 7Western Producerand watching the snowflakes floating by the window, a letter caught my eye.

It was about France and in that particular part of the country that they get so little snow. Then it went on to compliment theProduceron the good animal pictures they print.

To my surprise, the letter was signed by a very familiar name, Marion Wooden. We had lived in the same community for many years, but at different times so have never met.

Proactive approach best bet with looming catastrophes

The Pan-Canadian Action Plan on African swine fever has been developed to avoid the worst case scenario — a total loss ofmarket access.

Like Marion, I like the animal pictures and am always clipping them out. Some get tucked in with our Christmas mail, others handed out to people who like animals.

Recently the rancher with his four best friends on the truck seat beside him got handed to the man across the street who takes his dog and the neighbour’s dog out for rides.

I took the picture of the deer feeding on the farmer’s bales, with a deer right in the truck box, to show the ladies at bridge.

Deer are tame now and we see a lot of them in the city. After a snow you can see where all they have been to, like up the front steps to munch on the cedars.

While going through my mounds of clippings I found a letter that was printed sometime ago in a farm paper and written by John Zinkhan of Broadview, Sask. He was planning a book about the lighter side of the Dirty Thirties. I wonder if he ever got it done?
