I’ve done many interviews since I was hired at the Western Producer 12 years ago but this summer I experienced an interview in a new way, in which I was asked the questions.

It was for a documentary series called Welcome to the Farm Show for which the Western Producer hired a documentary team to show how Ag In Motion, Western Canada’s largest outdoor farm show, is put together.

AgSenze automated body condition scoring can catch disease earlier

AgSenze has developed an automated body condition scoring camera for dairy cows which shows when a cow could be losing weight too quickly, allowing for early disease detection.

As you can imagine, the event requires thousands of hours of work and a high level of coordination.

Welcome to the Farm Show is our attempt to show readers how it all comes together, by talking to the people who run it and to Glacier FarmMedia reporters who’ve covered the show since it started.

The first season was filmed leading up to and during Ag in Motion last summer. It has three episodes that will be released this winter.

The first episode is called Working Cattle and it premiered at a private event at Canadian Western Agribition on Nov. 26 and was released to the public the following day.

This episode has Glacier FarmMedia staff including Lisa Guenther, Rob O’Connor  and Melonee Ochitwa.

It also has representatives of Neeralta, Green Aero Tech, TL Andrew Livestock, Huber Ag Equipment, Ritchie Ag Equipment and Highline Manufacturing.

Episode 2, License to Drive, premiers at the Western Canadian Crop Production Show Jan. 14, and will be available for all to view on Jan. 15.

Scott Garvey and I are in this episode, along with representatives from equipment companies that participated at Ag in Motion, and some farmers who tested equipment at the farm show.

The third episode is called Six Inches of Topsoil and will be released in February.

The trailer and Episode 1, Working Cattle is already available on the Welcome to the Farm Show landing page and on The Western Producer’s YouTube channel.
