REGINA — The Senate defeated an amendment to Bill C-234 Nov. 28 but another has now been moved.
The contentious bill on carbon pricing exemptions for grain drying and barn heating and cooling will also be the subject of a House of Commons vote Nov. 29 on an opposition motion calling for the Senate to immediately pass the bill, unamended.
During the Nov. 28 vote the majority of Prairie senators voted against the amendment, which would have eliminated Parliament’s right to extend the eight-year sunset clause for the exemption.

But then Sen. Pierre Dalphond, from the Independent Senators Group, reintroduced an amendment he had already lost in earlier debate. That is to remove barns and greenhouses from the possible exemption. Debate was later adjourned.
