The Saskatchewan election campaign officially got underway this morning after premier Brad Wall visited the lieutenant governor to dissolve the legislature.

Voting day is April 4.

Wall kicked off the campaign in Saskatoon.

NDP leader Cam Broten, who made a number of campaign-style announcements last week, will be in Regina.

Both leaders will be at the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities annual convention on Wednesday.

Wall has said the Saskatchewan Party platform won’t contain many costly promises because the province can’t afford them.

Broten said voters must consider who can best protect public services such as health and education.

Meanwhile, Green Party leader Victor Lau is questioning why he won’t be part of a televised leaders’ debate. The party has had a full slate of candidates in place since 2014.

Election details

• The Saskatchewan election occurs on April 4.

• Advance polling runs from March 29 to April 2.

• All Canadian citizens who are at least 18 years old as of April 4 are eligible to vote.

• Eligible voters must have lived in Saskatchewan for at least six months before the election call.

• Permanent residents, immigrants and refugees are not eligible.

• Different rules apply to students, military personnel, and candidates.

• Inmates in a provincial correctional centre can vote by mail.

• A voter information card mailed to every registered explains where and when to vote and also acts as identification if used with another document.
