REGINA – Saskatchewan residents can express their views of provincial crown corporations at one of 12 public meetings beginning June 10.
In February, the government announced a review of five of the 12 crowns: SaskTel, SaskPower, Sask-Energy, Saskatchewan Government Insurance and Saskatchewan Transportation Company.
As well, all Crown Investments Corporation holdings, such as investments in Saskferco, the heavy oil upgraders at Lloydminster and Regina, and Crown Life, are being examined. The review includes the financial health and economic impact of each corporation.
The public meetings will be led by a sub-committee of the independent Provincial Advisory Committee on the Economy.

Wilson Olive, senior partner in the Regina law firm of Olive Waller Zinkhan and Waller, will chair the sub-committee known as Talking About Saskatchewan Crowns.
Other members are Frank Proto, president and chief executive officer of Wascana Energy Inc., Gord Steininger, national representative of the Communications, Energy and Paperworks Union of Canada, and Ray Ahenakew, executive director of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council.
“I think PACE is well-balanced in its views,” said Olive, adding there are no pre-conceived ideas as to which, if any, crowns should be privatized.
Public meetings begin June 10 in Rosetown, followed by Lloydminster the next evening, then Swift Current, Moose Jaw and Estevan. The next week, beginning June 17, meetings will be in North Battleford, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Nipawin and Yorkton.
Meetings in Saskatoon June 24 and Regina June 25 will have both afternoon and evening sessions.
