Saskatchewan has made 10 more water pumping units available to farmers
who need to rent equipment to fill reservoirs and dugouts.
Sask Water now offers 50 units to help farmers cope with drought
conditions.
The government awarded tenders to three Saskatchewan companies to
supply the units.
Valley West Irrigation of Outlook was awarded a $211,000 contract to
provide pipe. Armco Holdings of Sceptre was awarded $116,000 to provide
trailers. Central Water and Equipment Services of Saskatoon received
$57,000 to provide pumps.
“The drought conditions we currently face have increased the demand for
pumping equipment and purchasing this equipment means we increase our
pumping capacity by 25 percent,” said Ron Osika, minister responsible
for Sask Water.
Earlier this year, Sask Water reduced by 50 percent its equipment
rental charge on distances greater than one mile.
The deadline to apply to rent equipment is Sept. 15. Equipment can be
rented at Sask Water’s head office in Moose Jaw or the regional offices
in Weyburn, North Battleford, Yorkton, Swift Current and Nipawin.
