Regina pulse processor and exporter Alliance Grain Traders announced it has a letter of intent to buy and develop an inland pulse crop and grain handling terminal in South Australia.
According to the company’s Aug. 30 release, the deal will give Alliance control of Balco Grain Holdings, located at Bowmans, 95 kilometres north of Adelaide in South Australia.
Balco assets include property, storage facilities and related handling equipment.
The price, including planned expansion costs and improvements, is expected to be about $10 million Cdn.
The new company will be owned and operated by Alliance’s wholly owned subsidiary, Australia Milling Group.
Alliance bills itself as the largest lentil and pea splitting company in the world.
Alliance chief executive officer Murad Al-Katib said the acquisition is a good platform for Alliance’s expansion into South Australia and the Yorke Peninsula, a region which is generally reliable for pulse production. The 2010 pulse harvest looks promising, he said.
