Three new directors will be fitted for SARM jackets after elections at last week’s annual convention.
The three are among the first to wear the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities’ new colours.
Darker, browner jackets debuted at the Regina convention after a previous supply of lighter-coloured cloth ran out.
SARM directors have always been easy to spot in a crowd because of the distinctive jackets.
Executive director Ken Engel said the “new look for the new millennium” got mixed reviews.
“Some said it looks great. Others said, ‘you were sure a lot easier to find in the old jackets’. “

The 1999 jackets purchased at a Regina men’s wear shop were no longer available, prompting SARM to update its look with a colour that was similar but not quite as bright. SARM purchased the jackets, so outgoing directors have to return them.
Gone from the board are Bob Schultz from Lashburn, who was unsuccessful in a bid for both the presidency and vice-presidency, and retirees Keith Carleton of Neville and Nick Postnikoff from Blaine Lake.
Neal Hardy of Hudson Bay was returned as president. David Marit of Fife Lake, won a three-way contest for vice-president, opening up a vacancy in division 2. Ray Orb of Cupar won that election.
Douglas Steele of Gull Lake was elected to replace Carleton in division 3, and Murray Purcell of Vanscoy won his bid to replace Postnikoff in division 5.
Rounding out the board are: Don Taylor of Bredenbury in division 1; Jim Hallick of Sturgis in division 4 and Debra Gronning from Marengo in division 6.
About 1,900 delegates attended last week’s convention.
