Voters in the Saskatchewan Rural Municipality of Sherwood elected a new council May 9.
The election was made necessary after last fall’s vote for reeve was declared invalid because the winning margin was just two votes and half of the council later resigned.
In February, the provincial government took control of the Regina-area RM, saying a byelection would be held as soon as possible.
Last week Gary Miller was elected reeve, receiving 465 votes to Fred Sykes’ 363 votes.
Council members are Kevin Chekay in Division 1, Tim Probe in Division 2, Dale Heenan in Division 3, Corey Wilton elected by acclamation in Division 4, Doug Harle in Division 5 and Barry Jijian in Division 6.
The closest race was in Division 5 where the winning margin was eight votes.
The new council was scheduled to hold its first meeting May 14,taking over from the government-appointed Merilee Rasmussen.
She is a lawyer and former legislative law clerk who had acted as reeve and council since February.
