The Canadian Bull Congress was held in Camrose, Alta., Jan. 21-22 and featured a small 4-H show to help new members experience their first show in a low-stress atmosphere while letting more experienced members meet with friends from previous shows.

“This show is good,” said Jess Malott, leader of the Armena 4-H Beef club. “It helps them build their confidence. When you have a show like this, you have a feeling of how to go about it.” | Mary MacArthur photos

Matthew Trefiak of Edgerton, Alta., said his family likes bringing bulls to the bull congress because many of their buyers are commercial cattle producers who want to see animals in person. Trefiak said this is one of the last shows before the family’s February bull sale.
