The weeks before Christmas spark the same conversation around here. What should we put on the cover of our Christmas edition?
Christmas tree farm? Done it. Tree hunt? Done it. Concert? Decorated barn? Reindeer? Nativity scene? Christmas carollers? Holiday train? Done, done and done.
Any of these subjects, well photographed, would doubtless bring Christmas cheer to our readers, but we always want something a little bit different to keep them interested.
Maybe not quite so different as the year we photographed a randy wild ram with a lighted wreath around its neck. Some of us still shudder over the aftermath of that incident, so let’s not speak of it again. And don’t tell the RCMP that you know anything about it.

As you know by the cover, decorated farm equipment was our eventual choice. One conversation with Kyle Henderson and a consult with the Farm and Garden Centre in Saskatoon, and a 2010 9770 STS was delivered to our front lawn.
What? You mean it isn’t that easy for our farmer readers? Am I surprised. Then again, we’re borrowing it, not buying it.
Once the combine was in place, decorations were purchased, lights were tested and strung and before you could say White Christmas, a decorating party was underway.
Horns honked along Millar Avenue as theWPstaff hung from ladders and wrapped the spout, the stairs and the railings in garland and ribbons.
A little hot chocolate and a lot of duct tape later, the deed was done. If Christmas shopping brings you to Saskatoon (and you’ve left it a little late by now) come by and see it.
Oh, it’s not a professional job, like that jaw-dropping, perfectly lighted tractor we featured in a little box on the cover last week.
Nope, this effort looks like a bunch of amateurs got together for some fun and created some holiday cheer that brightens up an otherwise dreary industrial avenue.
