To the Editor:
Nobody can sit on the Canadian Wheat Board fence any more.
If the government has its way, the board will be gone, and NAFTA will never allow it to be reinstated.
We will be at the mercy of the big boys with nobody to fight for us against the railways or Big Grain.
Does anybody think that Cargill, Louis Dreyfuss, Viterra, Bunge, ADM will market your grain and give you everything back except nine cents a bushel, like the Board does?

Do you always hit the top of the market while trying to price your grain? If the canola market works so well for you, then ask yourself this question… how much do they make on your $13/ bushel canola…another $10 (just a guess). Maybe a greater portion of that $10 should be in your pocket.
What happens when the same is true for wheat? Will Cargill open its books for you to see how much they are hosing you?
A dual market is just a myth proposed by people who know better, to confuse the issue so farmers can be lulled into a false sense of security. Does anyone believe that corporations who would compete with the Board in a so-called dual market, will allow Board grains in their elevators, on their trains or at port?
If we remain complacent like they want, then we are lost. They are counting on your complacency. Just because they want you to believe the board is finished, should we just roll over without a fight?
Get involved with the CWB rallies and show the government we can’t be pushed around. Western Canadian farmers are the only ones who should decide the future of our Canadian Wheat Board, not the government and their corporate friends, and certainly not the World Trade Organization.
