They forgot to tell the old people they would triple the buy back price. Twenty percent interest almost broke the farmers, lots it did. They charged the same interest as the banks. …
When BSE hit, the most money the NDP spent was hauling (former premier Roy) Romanow and (former agriculture minister Clay) Serby around feeding them hamburgers.

Grain machinery sales are up because people are trading so they don’t have to make a payment this year. It’s a bit hard on their equity but they will survive because next year will be better.
Grain prices will be higher because of less production. Input prices might also rise re: potash attention. Farm Credit Canada has $20 billion in farm loans; next year maybe $40 billion. If the farmers can’t pay it back, the consumer might have to chip in.
We really don’t need beef. Poultry is more environmentally friendly and way cheaper to produce. Maybe try to eat chicken seven days a week for three weeks straight before we let the beef industry go.
