If the Western Potash Corp. solution mine proposed for Milestone, Sask., goes ahead, it could use treated sewage effluent from the City of Regina.

The two parties announced an agreement June 25 that would see the effluent piped 30 kilometres southeast of Regina and used to extract potash.

The project would divert 60,000 cubic metres daily to the mine and be worth $200 million over 45 years to the city. The city would operate the pump house and pipeline and be responsible for obtaining environmental approvals.

Western Potash Corp. would fund the capital costs.

Company president Patricio Varas said Western Potash was happy to be able to come to an agreement on a sustainable, innovative way to extract its resource.
