Awards are one method of measuring your place in an industry.
While there are few farming awards, other than in conservation and for young, progressive farmers, other parts of the business have associations that recognize achievements annually.
Journalism is no exception, and Western Producer reporters and editors belong to a variety of professional groups, including three agriculture specific organizations.
I am proud to say that at last week’s American Agricultural Editors Association convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, two of our staff took home several awards in the face of record entries and the always-tough competition that occurs in agricultural journalism in North America.

Art director Michelle Houlden took home three second-place and a third-place award in the categories of overall magazine design and best use of charts and graphic materials.
