SASKATOON (Staff) – The Manitoba Agriculture Credit Corp. has increased the amount of money it will loan producers for feeder steers.

Under the stocker program, feeder steer loan limits have increased to $100,000 from $60,000.

The term for stocker loans has also been reduced to 12 months from 14 after a recent review showed more than 90 percent of the loans are repaid in less than a year.

The loan limit for buying bred heifers and cows has been increased to $880 per animal from $640. The increase covers about 80 percent of the cost of buying the animal.
