A five-wood to the green for an ace and Trent Moskal became one grain bin richer.

Moskal was golfing in the annual Tisdale Lions Farmers’ Golf Tournament at the nine-hole Riverside Golf and Country Club. On the 200-yard par three eighth hole, he dunked his ball for a hole-in-one.

The eighth was a tournament sponsored hole and Moskal became the proud owner of a Flaman 7,000-bushel hopper-bottom grain bin complete with an air drying system, valued at $13,000.

“It was more of a shock than anything. My playing partners just gave me some high-fives and we carried on as normal,” said the young farmer from Brooksby, Sask.

Moskal said the ball landed within a metre of the pin and dropped straight into the hole.

“I normally golf in the high 40s for nine and only about six to 10 rounds a year, so this came as a bit of a surprise. I can’t wait to fill (the bin) up,” he said.

It was a first-time eagle for Moskal. He said the win has not inspired him to play more golf or consider the pro tour. Instead, he says he will be substitute teaching in a rural school after harvest this fall and has plans to teach overseas in January.
