G3 Canada is expanding its western Canadian grain elevator network again, this time with new high-efficiency elevators at Irricana, Alta., and in Alberta’s Stettler County.
Construction on the new elevators is expected to start this summer, pending final regulatory approvals, the company announced March 27. Completion is scheduled for 2020.
“Central Alberta is one of the most important grain growing regions in Canada,” said Don Chapman, the company’s chief executive officer.
“We are excited to be able to provide farmers in the region a new choice to market their grain through modern facilities that will save them time and money.”

G3’s new facilities will both have a capacity of 42,000 tonnes and loop track rail access that can accommodate 150-car unit trains.
According to the company, the elevators will be able to unload a Super B truck in less than five minutes.
The Stettler County elevator will be serviced by Canadian Pacific Railway, while the one in Irricana will be on the Canadian National Railway network.
G3 currently has four other high-efficiency elevators under construction at Morinville, Wetaskiwin and Carmangay in Alberta and one in Maidstone, Sask.
In addition, the company owns and operates two high-throughput concrete elevators in Manitoba — at Bloom and Glenlea — and seven more in Saskatchewan — at Plenty, Leader, Kindersley, Saskatoon, Colonsay, Melville and Pasqua, near Moose Jaw.
G3 is also building a new export terminal in North Vancouver, which is slated to open in 2020.
