Saskatchewan Party MLA and former agriculture minister Lyle Stewart has resigned his seat in the legislature citing poor health.
Stewart has been an MLA for more than 23 years.
In recent years he has battled prostate cancer.

“Unfortunately my condition has worsened in recent weeks to the point that I can no longer do this job to the standard I expect of myself and that my constituents deserve,” he said in a news release from the party.
He was elected in 1999 in the constituency of Thunder Creek, but due to redrawn boundaries is currently the MLA for Lumsden-Morse.
The legislative sitting resumed March 6 and Stewart rose to speak to his resignation, saying he wanted to spend more time with his grandchildren.
“Goodbye for now,” he said to his colleagues.
Premier Scott Moe thanked Stewart for his contributions over the years.
A byelection will be called for Lumsden-Morse and Regina Coronation Park, where former speaker Mark Docherty resigned a few weeks ago, likely this fall.
