The federal government is investing up to $77.75 million over seven years in Terra Grain Fuels’ wheat ethanol facility in Belle Plaine, Sask.

The money is from Ottawa’s ecoEnergy for Biofuels program, created to invest up to $1.5 billion over nine years to boost biofuel production.

“This funding will help sustain local jobs and economic opportunities while contributing to a healthier environment for all Canadians,” said Conservative MP Ray Boughen.

Terra Grain Fuels president Tim LaFrance said he was encouraged by Ottawa’s commitment to the emerging renewable fuel industry.

“There has been a significant positive impact on the local communities and area producers in and around the Belle Plaine facility,” he said.
