Another wild mule deer has tested positive for chronic wasting disease.

A hunter turned in the head of a doe taken in the herd reduction area

near Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park in the province’s southwest.

This is the sixth confirmed positive test among wild animals.

The Saskatchewan environment department issued about 2,200 control

permits earlier this fall as part of its herd reduction strategy to

control the spread of CWD.

The free permits could be used only for antlerless animals and the

heads had to be submitted for testing.

So far this fall, hunters have turned in 3,400 deer heads and 118 elk

heads for testing.
