Saskatchewan’s two new cereal commissions are seeking nominations for their inaugural elected boards.

Director nominations for the Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission and the Saskatchewan Barley Development Commission will be accepted until Oct. 18.

Elections are slated for Nov. 28.

The wheat commission requires seven directors and the barley commission six.

All producers registered with the SWDC and SBDC are eligible to serve as directors. A registered producer is a Saskatchewan producer who has sold wheat or barley in the last two years.

Producer elected directors will manage levies and work to ensure that the interests of Saskatchewan growers are supported.

Levy collection on the two crops became mandatory in Saskatchewan on Aug.1, 2013.

Levy rates for wheat and barley are set at 52 and 50 cents per tonne respectively.

The refundable levies are collected in addition to any provincial or federal check-off levies previously in effect.

Additional information is available online at www.saskwheatcommission.com.

The SWDC and SBDC have also named Tom Steve as general manager of the two commissions.

Steve is a former director of customer relations with Viterra.
