SWAN RIVER, Man. (Staff) – Farmers here are threatening to prevent an elk capture unless the province meets their requests to cut the animals’ population.

Bill Barker, a farmer from Kenville, said the government will need to get on farmers’ property to capture elk in the next month. The government plans to sell elk to kick-start elk ranching.

But if the government doesn’t allow more hunting and better compensation, Barker said farmers may organize to prevent the capture.
