Bargaining continues with new offer from federal employer

Treasury Board and members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada intend to bargain through the weekend to try to resolve outstanding issues that led to a walkout by 155,000 federal civil servants.

The workers, including Canadian Grain Commission inspectors and other agricultural jobs, have been off the job since April 19.

The union issued a statement Friday, April 28, saying a new offer was on the table.

Farmland rented or leased in the two provinces went from 25.7 million acres in 2011 to 29.1 million in 2021, says Census of Agriculture data.

“Today, we resumed talks with Treasury Board and have received a new offer from the employer,” said PSAC in an emailed statement.

“We hope to continue bargaining this weekend in order to reach a fair deal for our 120,000 federal public service members.”

Talks also continue for 35,000 Canada Revenue Agency employees.

PSAC said it would not provide any other details at this time.
