Australia’s national hog producers association has bought the rights to teach courses developed by Assiniboine Community College in Brandon.

Starting this March, hog barn workers in Australia will be able to take ACC courses to enhance their knowledge of pork production.

“This is a great opportunity for our industries to network and improve our training and delivery and pork production,” said Ross Brown, a training organization manager for CHM Alliance, a consortium that manages 17,000 sows at 12 sites in Australia and New Zealand.

ACC has worked with Australian Pork for 14 months to finalize details of the education deal, said Mary Petersen, the college’s agriculture extension co-ordinator.

”What they’ve been looking for is a program for managers, supervisors and people looking to advance their career (in the hog industry).”

Petersen said the Australians approached ACC because of the college’s excellent reputation in the hog industry.

“Manitoba has always been on the leading edge of education in the hog industry.”
