Land use decision maker
A Peace River farmer has been reappointed to British Columbia’s Agricultural Land Commission. Arthur Hadland will sit another year on the five-member commission that decides on land use for the five percent of the province that is held in the reserve to protect farmland.
Ag company consolidates
Terra International, Inc. has reorganized by merging its eastern and western U.S. divisions and creating a northern division out of the newly acquired Terra Canada operation. Terra markets fertilizer, crop protection products, seeds and services from its headquarters in Sioux City, Iowa. Don Smith continues as general manager of the Agromart system in Canada.

Sask Pool scholarships
Saskatchewan Wheat Pool has awarded 32 students with bursaries and scholarships worth a total of $41,900 for the 1993-94 academic year. Most of the students are enrolled in the college or school of agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan.
Good stewardship
Dewayne Good of the M Bar Ranch is the second winter of the Alberta Cattle Commission’s Environmental Stewardship Award. He was selected for his care of semi-arid rangeland and riparian areas on his ranch southeast of Medicine Hat.
According to the ACC, Good uses a low-impact grazing system and low stocking rates to ensure pasturage for both livestock and wildlife in both wet and drought years.
BCFA elections
The British Columbia Federation of Agriculture elected Jake Janzen, a hog producer from Abbotsford, B.C., as its 1994 president during the recent general meeting.
The association’s new vice-presidents are Frank Lauer, a fruit grower from Summerland, and Judy Thompson, a chicken producer from Vancouver Island.
