Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$58.62 per hundredweight April 5, up from $55.34 March 29.

U.S. hogs averaged $75.79 on a carcass basis April 5, up from $74.89 March 29.

The U.S. pork cutout was $81.84 per cwt. April 5, up from $81.33 March 29.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to April 6 was 2.458 million, down from 2.504 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.333 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the April 6 Signature Five price was C$182.98 per 100 kilograms, up from $172.05 the previous week.

Trump’s tariffs take their toll on U.S. producers

U.S. farmers say Trump’s tariffs have been devastating for growers in that country.

The price was $83 on a per hundredweight basis, up from $78.04.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$5.30-$5.60 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.30 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$5.00-$5.40. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.15.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,209 sheep and lambs and 83 goats sold April 1. All classes of lambs sold steady to higher. Thicker sheep sold barely steady.
