The Winnipeg Commodity Exchange has appointed Mike Gagne as interim president and chief executive officer.

It is leaving the selection of a permanent head to the people who end up owning the exchange once it becomes a private company.

“The board realizes that at the end of the demutualization process a new board will be voted in by the shareholders of WCE, and going forward it is appropriate that they will have the responsibility to recruit and appoint the president and CEO,” said Peter Lloyd, chair of the exchange’s board of governors.

Gagne was the chief financial officer of Manitoba Crop Insurance Corp. from 1983-91.

He joined the exchange in 1992 and has been serving as director of finance and treasurer of the exchange’s clearing corporation.

The exchange recently dropped its president and CEO, Ben Corn, who had been with the exchange since 1997.
