– Investigators are still searching for why Stephen Craig Paddock opened fire onto thousands of concert goers in Las Vegas Oct. 2 killing at least 59 and injuring 527 before killing himself. The largest mass shooting in U.S. history is already reigniting the controversial debates around stricter gun control.
– Jagmeet Singh has been selected to lead Canada’s federal NDP, following a first ballot victor with 53.6 per cent of the vote in the Oct. 1 ballot.

– Reuters-Ipsos opinion polls have found U.S. residents are growing more trustful of the news media and less in U.S. President Donald Trump. A poll of 14,300 people released today suggested adults who said they had a “great deal” or “some” confidence in the press rose to 48 per cent in September compared to 39 per cent last November. Meanwhile, a separate poll, which has tracked major institutions every couple of months since 2016, found that Americans who had a “great deal” or “some” confidence in Trump’s administration has fallen from 52 per cent last January to 48 per cent in the latest poll in September.
– The United States plans to cut its embassy staff in Cuba and tell Cuba to withdraw more than half of its diplomats in Washington as unexplained attacks threaten the recently formed ties between the two rivals. Unexplained attacks in Havana have harmed the hearing, balance and vision of some U.S. embassy staff there. Cuba denies involvement in the attacks and some theories suggest that a third country or factions within Cuba have an interest is harming U.S.-Cuba relations.
