The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association has a new general manager, after almost a year without a permanent replacement for its previous administrator.
Chad MacPherson, who had been working as stewardship co-ordinator for Moose Jaw River Watershed Stewards Inc., grew up on a mixed farm near McLean, Sask., and holds a bachelor of science degree.
SSGA president Dennis Fuglerud said MacPherson’s background in environmental issues, land management and grazing plans will serve the association well.
Adele Buettner of AgriBiz Communications Corp. in Saskatoon had been interim general manager since July. The previous manager, Sheila Fishley, had been fired in February at a time when the board was in upheaval over alleged lack of communication between the executive and other members.
The issues came to a head during a closed door session at the 2007 annual general meeting when Fuglerud was reinstated as president after earlier being ousted by other board members.
Fishley continues to produce the organization’s magazine.
